If a Mirror 2

If a Mirror, Two

If I but believed,
in Source and Light,
and the speck of GodShine in all –
instead of knowing,
as I do and am;

then I might stare into a child’s eyes
moist with teary delight,
and framed with careless hair
to find my own aged reflection
in innocence and joy;

but, instead I see the silent fears
taught like soul scars,
and scream a quick challenge
that defies the death of yearning,
and I must now reflect
in a blank stare
always
lonely
terror.
